V Международная ЕГЭ-олимпиада по Английскому языку. Пишем правильно

Task 1. Style the rules.

All texts can be divided into two styles: formal and informal. Each has its own rules. Divide the following rules into two groups: FORMAL/INFORMAL. As the answers write the numbers of the sentences.

1.      You may use colloquial words/expressions.

2.      Avoid contractions.

3.      Write in third person.

4.      Don’t use clichés.

5.      You may address readers using second person pronouns.

6.      You may use abbreviated words.

7.      Avoid imperative voice.

8.      Use active voice.

9.      Longer and more complex sentences are preferred.

10.  Difficulty of subject may be acknowledged and empathy shown to the reader.

Task 2. Be punctual!

Choose only those sentences below which have correct punctuation. As the answers write the numbers of the sentences.

1.      Did you realize that you had left behind the books you bought in London?

2.      Nevertheless, there are times, when I recall the happy days we had together, and then I miss you terribly.

3.      As you know, I really like computers, and I’m spending long hours in front of a screen, both at work and at home.

Task 3. Express vs translate.

Choose English phrases that can express the meanings of these Russian words and expressions. Match the letters and numbers. There can be odd English phrases.

Task 5. Write your essay.

Comment on the following statement. If you want a thing well done, do it yourself.

What is your opinion? Do you agree or not? Why?

Write 200-250 words.

Use the following plan:

– make an introduction (state the problem)

– express your personal opinion and give reasons for it

– give arguments for the other point of view and explain why you don’t agree with it

– draw a conclusion

Task 6. Как это было…

Надеемся, что после выполнения всех заданий вас переполняют эмоции, чувства, у вас отличное настроение от проделанной работы, вам хочется поделиться с остальными участниками и рассказать «Как это было...»

Ответьте на предложенные вопросы:

1.      Какое у вас настроение после выполнения всех заданий?

2.      Что было самым трудным и как вы преодолевали трудности?

3.      За что вы можете себя похвалить?

Постарайтесь, чтобы ответы на вопросы было интересно прочитать и другим участникам. Ответы вы можете написать в любом жанре. Это может быть рассказ, заметка, сказка, стихотворение и др.
